Greetings!
I am very happy and enthusiast to be a member of the Substack community and I would like to welcome you to my blog "Starin' through my rearview by Manos Karousos".
Why here?
You may wonder what has brought me here. Undoubtedly, it is the insatiable need to express myself and write about what is important to me and to many other people around the world! I am a social anthropologist from Athens, Greece, and I am passionate about sports and culture. I am also a curious storyteller and am particularly fascinated by personalities who are considered misunderstood. To put it simply, I have a “Forever Student Mentality” so I love interacting with people and sharing ideas on various topics.
What does “Starin’ through my rearview” means?
It is no coincidence that this blog took its name from Tupac's famous song with the same title: “Starin' through my rearview”. For me, this phrase represents someone who has overcome obstacles and difficulties and is still standing. I also see it as a very inspiring and important message, an encouragement to see and interpret facts like an outside observer, to analyze perspectives and attitudes from a distance. This can inspire us to see the world through different lenses; to realize so many things, which are often unexpected, not easily identifiable, or imaginable at first!
Be sure that, "Starin' through my rearview" is against the ordinary and the cliché!
Team player
Great people make great teams! So, discrimination has no place here! I encourage you to comment, connect and contact me to make suggestions, share ideas, views, feedback, etc.
Ready to ball
Inspired mostly by the amazing world of sports, my purpose is to publish up to 2-3 texts per week, some of which will be free and others available by subscription. Articles on urban socio-culture and short commentaries on the news of the week will also be available here. The paid material will be based on personal research and writings primarily about the socio-political, and anthropological significance of sports, with a focus on the stories of famous athletes. For more information, please visit the “About” section of my profile.
